ECS Card Gate Safe Installer

Over eight years since Gate Safe®, first joined forces with the Joint Industry Board, which administers the Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, to launch a ECS Gate Safe Related Discipline card, the charity has now been approved as a preferred training provider.

From 1st February, Gate Safe is also able to offer the digital Health, Safety & Environment and Electrical Safety Unit tests which are NEW requirements for a successful application for the ECS White card.

To apply for the ECS Gate Safe Related Discipline card applicants need:

• To have undertaken and passed the Gate Safe Training course within the past two years
• To have undertaken the current ECS Health, Safety and Environment Assessment (minimum six months before expiry)
• To have undertaken the new ECS Electrical Safety Unit Assessment

This follows last year’s announcement that Gate Safe accreditation can be added to the CSCS/FISS Blue Skilled Installer card. Processing of FISS cards is handled by Lantra upon successful completion of the Gate Safe training course (within the last two years), the Health, Safety & Environment test, and proof of Level 2 qualification Diploma in Fencing.

Commenting on Gate Safe’s relationship with the two card schemes, Gate Safe founder Richard Jackson says, “We are delighted to see our training recognised by two leading and highly credible industry competency schemes, which we naturally hope will heighten awareness of the need to observe the relevant protocol to deliver a safe automated gate or barrier installation. As a training provider for the Health, Safety & Environment and Electrical Safety Unit tests, we are now able to offer a more seamless experience for installers looking to achieve either the ECS or CSCS/FISS accreditations. Ultimately, our objective remains to improve the understanding / appreciation of accepted best practice in relation to an automated gate installation, and to protect individuals and their businesses from the risk of costly litigation which could potentially follow a non-compliant installation.”
